FUCKING DOMAIN SQUATTING BASTARDS (and some food)

It happens more and more often these days. Despite their plummetting stock prices, I continue to see the internet devil-spawn company that I used to work for camped on random domains.

The most recent one - soulseek.net (I'm sure you'll be extremely surprised and shocked to hear that there's a full-screen popup from the main page of that baby), which I stumbled upon when looking for the soulseek site after I realised that soulseek.org has been squatted on by another scumsucking fuckhead in corporate form.

Now I'm not going to rant about whatever percieved benefits these arseholes gain from taking the domain rights of a popular site, but I know that whenever I see it happen I immediately feel an immense hatred for the entities involved. Suffice to say that if someone was asking for donations to purchase the caffiene or other drugs required to fuel a hacking binge to bring them down, I'd be all in. I think they should be neutered, put inside a rocket and shot into the sun.

Notwithstanding, I still feel a flare of anger, then sorrow whenever I see that DBS are still up to their old tricks. There are so many great and talented people working there that it would be a snap for them to turn out amazing, creative work. It is such a shame that they are employed by such a corrupt and unremorseful group of leaches who want to take the percieved "easy" way to their internet "riches" via spamming and domain highjacking.

I think we need net-activists, to protest in the real world the strip-mining, pollution and degredation of the web. Not that they'd really do any good - like the talented people within the company they're in no position to really make a difference - but it would make me feel much better, and I would love to see these fuckers have their servers paint-bombed, offices picketed, or smelly hippies chained to their network equipment.

In happier news: I haven't food-geeked here for a while. This is about to change mostly due to the impressive culinary display I essayed tonight at Caitlin's lil dinner partay. I was responsable for desert, which usually isn't my thing at all, but I rocked it out hardcore with some:

Funky Toffee'd Strawberry and Rosemary Skewers
Give it up for:
1 crapload of Strawberries (I used a 3 punnets for 6 people, few were left)
Enough 6 inch(ish) long sticks of Rosemary for everyone to have 2 or 3.
White Sugar
Water
Creme Fraiche
Cointreau
1 Lime (or use a bit leftover from the sorbet)

'Ear me now Gangstas
Strip the leaves off the Rosemary sticks (keeping the leaves for your roast or whatever, dry them, they're useful, also finely chop a handful to use later), leaving the very top ones on beause they look cool. I used some flowering stalks tonight, and they looked rather groovy. Cut the opposite ends of the sticks at an angle, so they become a Rosemary Skewer™
Top the strawberries, then spike a couple onto each Skewer™. There needs to be enough room for people to be able to grip the ends and pick them up, so leave some room.

Lay out the Skewers™ on a cake cooling rack, which is in turn laid on some baking paper, which is in turn laid on a baking tin. Set this badboy aside for a while.

Make some toffee. 1 1/2 cups sugar, 1/2 cup water, in the pan, heat the mofo up, let it caramelise. Don't stick your finger in it. I'm not going to teach you how to make toffee, if your grade 2 teacher and mum haven't managed it, then you should all be shot or something... Maybe just taught to make it, because shooting people is probably more expensive and labour intensive. You need a licence to have a gun, you don't need a licence to make toffee. I don't think James Bond ever made toffee (or Rosemary Strawberry Skewer™ things), but if he had I feel that his average with the ladies would have increased markedly.

When the toffee's beginning to turn, take it off the heat, let it cool a little and then throw that handful of chopped rosemary you've been holding in your hand all this time. Everything will go apeshit and bubble up, and it'll smell insanely good. It's about this time that any girls in the room will decide that it may be an excellent idea to marry you some day, and in the meantime ply you with champagne. This is a Good Thing™

Drizzle this fragrently viscous liquid over the tray or Strawberry Skewers™, not too much, it needs to be a fine crackly lattice, rather than a thick layer. Then let it cool while you hit them up with:

Teh Lime Creme Fraiche of POWAAAH +2
Creme Fraiche. Finely chopped lime zest. Lime Juice. Cointreau. Make these ingredients have an orgy in a bowl. Serve with the Skewers™

Mistakes Jaymis made tonight, that he's not going to make next time, and you shouldn't make ever, because he's just told you about them:

The toffee should be as light as possible. Pretty runny is fine, mine was too thick and sticky. Next time I'll be aiming for a really thin crackly dealie.
Don't let it cook too long and the flavour get too dark. Take it off the heat just as it starts to colour. I let mine start getting brown, and when I added Rosemary the flavour was pretty strong. It still tasted awesome, but stuck everyone's teeth together. This is fun, but not classy. If you are aiming further towards fun than classy, then by all means.

The Sorbet is Lime and Basil and goes a little like this: It's cool as is, but in combination with alcohol it's even better. Tonight it wasn't quite set to sorbet consistancy, so I made it into shots with a spoon of Cointreau on top. Sexy? Yes indeed. The other option that I'm a massive fan of is Jane and Jaymis' Fuck Yeah Gin and Tonic with Lime and Basil Sorbet.
This innovation came about after we had no limes left to put in out G&T after making the sorbet, so I put a spoon of sorbet in the glasses, mixed in the Gin, then added the Tonic.

Fuck yeah!
