I just took pictures, and the official verdict is that I can see buggerall. The whole skyline is blocked out by a mixture of smoke and dust. A suburb just north of here has been evacuated. Rather scary.

Ten minutes later
Just talked to Dad, and apparently it's more dust than smoke, so the house (and the Jaymis locked inside, coughing weakly) is in no danger.
It's rather dark for 5 in the aftrenoon though.
