There are some things that can't be bought...

...and simplicity of networking tasks is one of them. It's just not something that's ever easy to do. With your own systems it's uber easy, I reroute and reconfigure in my sleep, but as soon as someone's gear is involved, everything goes to shite.

Case in point: Installing a network card. Simple, right?

Installing a network card into someone else's circa 1996-7 Compaq computer? Fucking hassle.

Stupid torque nut things, wrong side of the case comes out, can't access pci slots without removing kiddie barrier thing, pci slots are too damn short, have to remove metal slot-fitty-bit (that's a technical term, you need not concern yourself with that) from network card to make it fit.

Gawd, what a trial.

Aaaaaaaanyway, the other network is pretty much done. All the stuff that really needs doing happened, and now it's just some niggly things to finish up. Yes, the job that should have taken a couple of hours stretched into almost 30 hours over 4 days. Would have been fantastic if I was enough of a prick to charge by the hour, but I'm too nice.

Ok, now the important part - I got this email recently:

With trusty cable at my side I downloaded those puppies at a blistering 150k/s, all of them, you should too, because they are the funkiest, pornoest music I have heard for a long time. I shall go a little deeper into this later on my next post on the Alt, where I plug them so hard their dicks get sore.
