This entry was brought to you by a boy and a palmpilot, floating free in the world...

...untethered to time and space by an internet connection

Been offline for a couple of days now, it's been as horrible as I expected. Actually, it hasn't been that been that bad, I've managed to get outside, go swimming, sailing, move all my belongings to the new house (yay), hang out with the parentals (double yay).

I think it's almost time to reconnect now though... Not that it's my choice when I get connected or anything, but it's been a while since I've had a nice fat bandwidth pipeline at the end of my fingers, and my typing 5k1772 are going steadily downhill.

Not that my current typing is much of a benchmark. I'm currently using my palm pilot + keyboard, and while looking rather leet and fitting nicely into my pocket it's not really conducive to blistering typing speeds.

It's definitely faster than using a stylus though.

I'm definitely missing my online homies. The last week and a bit has had me using dialup at Mum and Dad's place... Only one phone line, connecting for an hour at a time. That's no way for a man to live. Fortunately I'm only a boy though, so I can adapt and learn to deal with it.

Christmas was a rather laidback affair, I managed to strip the lining off my mouth on Christmas Eve by eating too many prawns (which I'm allergic to). It was worth it. Since then (in no particular order) I've:

Bought and read another Neil Stevenson book - the Diamond Age. This guy is a fantastic writer, produces a good fusion of cyberpunk, history and real life. Go buy some of his books... Now.

Drunk loads of good beer - since Dad's stroke he can't drink much any more, too much alcohol keeps him awake and gives him a headache, so he makes up for it by buying really good beer. Pick of this holiday: James Squires Pale India Ale

Christened the pool, not (as Cleo suggested) with vomitus or other, sex0r induced bodily fluids, but with a nice sedate swim with Krissy and Jum. Don't worry though, the guest list for New Years seems to be getting bigger each day, so the other stuff should be making an appearence soon.

Found a glow worm, not that glow worms are worms, they're actually beetles, but flashy-butt-bug lacks a certain brand loyalty... Then again, so do I. Start again.

Found a flashy-butt-bug, in my first night sleeping in the new house I was kept awake by what I though was light reflecting off the pool onto my window. Light reflecting very regularly off the pool. Light reflecting very regularly off the pool in a way that doesn't really look much like light reflecting off a pool at all.

[stand up]

Light emmitting from the butt of a bug that seems to be sitting onthe outside of my window. I went outside without turning on the light and I caught me a flashy light bug. Hoo-ray. I'm sure that's a good omen of something. When I took him (her? I know the flashing's a courtship thing, but I'm mot sure how the flashing goes, and I didn't have any other bugs to compare it to, so I'm going to call him a him) inside and turned on the light I found out why he was sitting on my window for so long, he was tangled up in spiderweb. Freeing him was a moment's work, and hopefully gained me a favour from the faeries. Yay.
