Geeker than thou.

Time spent in new city before hitting up computer store for DV tapes and USB2 hard drive: 45 Minutes.

So... (That is how all Deutsch speaking people start when they're about to start a conversation with you). I am now in Regensburg. Fiddling around with video as part of a singing performance of diva-esq proportions, or so I am led to believe by the video material I've been given. I don't know if I should link anything about the woman this show is centered around. But for the video treatment I'm thinking lots of soft focus false colour stuff fading with photos of the moon, clouds, mountains, and macro shots of flowers.

...

That was written on the 20th of last month. Since then I haven't stopped working mein ashloch (spelling to be confirmed.. means "arsehole") off. A week in Regensburg, Rach turned up on the last day and spent an amazing night with me in the Hotel Room With The Sexiest Antique Bed In Existance (tm). Munich the next day. Couple of hours at Oktoberfest. Didn't get into any of the halls as we showed up on Saturday at 11:30am. Not the best planning ever, mostly my fault.
Rach caught her flight to Greece and I headed back to Waidring. Spent 25euro on a bloody taxi from the train station in St Johann back to Waidring, if I'd know it was going to cost that much I would have waited the two hours for the next bus in a restaurant somewhere.

Not sure how long I was in Waidring for after that, not long enough to catch my breath obviously as I haven't written anything and now I'm in Vienna. More video production - or more accurately DVD production - for a different show now. Much more fun / less wanky. Rach flies back into Berlin sometime tomorrow, and after that it seems that she's going to be spending a rather heinous amount of time and money getting her bunghole to wherever I am. Vienna? Munich? Ulm? No idea.

It's all been a blast. Some bits are rather more blastish than others. Not speaking the language is about as frustrating as I had expected, but it's surprisingly easy to conduct business despite the fact that I speak only enough Deutsch to order dinner and beer, catch a taxi or tell people that I don't speak much Deutsch.

The place I'm staying in Wien (that's Vienna for you Auslanders (foreigners)) is a total suicide pit (as Dr Dave would put it). Single bed, tiny room, dark corridors, featureless walls, tiny dog prancing back and forth in the bar/reception area. However it does feature rather tasteful Ikea furnishings and the best pillow I've encountered since I left Australia.

Thai pillows are way too hard. They're like those weird French pillows that are a big sausage, stuffed to busting point. Most Austrian and German pillows are huge down-filled contraptions that collapse like a bad sponge cake as soon as your head makes contact. Since leaving Aus I've woken up with more sore necks than a mosh-addicted giraffe. However the current pillow is just about perfect. A tad thick maybe, but it features proper synthetic stuffing that gives enough without dropping your head to the mattress and supports enough without propping your head at right angles to your spine.

I am very much looking forward to Saturday night, when Rach and I will have to share the barely-adequate-for-one single bed. Oh the snuggling that will be prosecuted then. Mmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I have finished my Weissbier, Rauberschnitzel unt Brautkartoffeln and Averna (damn you Rainer, damn you Francos, damn you all, and damn your Averna). So now it's time to get myself and my failing laptop battery back to the pension (hotel, apparently) where the powerpoints are.

Laptop is just over a year old and the battery now lasts for barely an hour. Shocking work IBM.

...as a Swiss I dare to write a little correction - or call it "Language support"- of the used German words:

...it is called "Arschloch" (but hey.. that is not pretty;)
then you write Brautkartoffel - you know what that means? Braut= bride...
so you say in someway bride potatos... but the thing you mean is called "Bratkartoffeln". I wish you a good time in Wien - if you think about travel in Switzerland - ask Rowley who I am and write me an email.

Dave recons my comments don't work in firefox.

He's right, but you can tab to the button. I really need to fix that and other things with this site layout. Oh for the time to do so.

If this works, you're right about the Tab thing. I wish I knew earlier.
