.. Hmm, I might have to work on that one.
So I'm back. The flight from Mu:nchen (after 8 months I still can't type umlauts) to Bangkok was, well it's like this:
Getting on planes used to really excite me. I loved taking off, loved landing, loved getting blasted on tiny bottles of alcohol.
Now it's still kind of exciting - because I know that I'm going somewhere cool and far away - but it's mostly painful and boring.
That's how flying from Mu:nchen was.
Meeting the Rachgirl was, well we hadn't seen each other for like 3 days so you can imagine that it was quite emotional. It would have been really emotional but she played a trick on me by going to the wrong arrival bit and messaging me with "I'm standing at the pink Cheap N Dodgy Thai Travel stand, when I was clearly standing at the pink Cheap N Dodgy Thai Travel stand. Once we sorted out that there was indeed two pink CNDTT stands, one at each terminal, and the terminal I had arrived at was not quite the terminal she expected me at. After that was sorted out, there was emotion.
We didn't do much in Bangkok for the, umm, 6 days? we were there? Was it 6? I'm not really sure. It was mostly filled with sleep and watching HBO on cable and eating. We did some shopping. Spent quite a few hours at Chatuchak markets. Got lost. Here are some tips for Chatuchak:
- They're huge. They're like the Labyrinth.
- It's completely impossible to tell where you are or where you're going.
- If you see something you like, don't think "well there's probably lots of them around, I'll come back for it later. You probably just saw the one unique item in the whole place. Get it NOW. It only costs five bucks.
- Thai people are small. You think you're a medium? You're a large. Think you're a large? Maybe you should go shopping somewhere that's Not Thailand. Size 34 jeans? You've got to be kidding.
- By and large Thais seem pretty keen on copying other people's stuff. Fashions and suchlike are very mainstream. If you want something totally unique you're going to have to hunt around like a mofo or go to Ciutat Vella. If you really want a pair of Lee or CK or Versace or D&G jeans though, you're in luck. You might even be able to find where they're made if you hunt around a bit and listen for sewing machines.
Coming from Bangkok to Brisbane was only a 3 hour time difference. Not enough for proper jetlag, but I can't sleep on planes, so after being awake for 30 hours I was a bit retarded. Sleep patterns buggered for a couple of days. Might as well have flown the London > Helsinki > Bangkok monster that Rach did.
Since then I've been back and forth. Did a show for Tom. Hung out with Rach at her Mum's place. Kept swapping cities with Jum but never meeting.
Now I'm in the Woomb, formatting and organizing my computer.
Fun times.
More to come.
In my humble opinion you should link to my new website, The Other 95.
Also hello and congratulations on getting back to Australia alive.
