The Goog

So I know I'm exceedingly far behind the ball on this one, but I've recently purchased an invite to Gmail and - surprisingly enough - it seems that Google have done a superb job with their take on a webmail system. I've been looking around for a mail solution to use while I'm travelling as I'm not so keen to have my laptop downloading half a meg of spam every time I connect to the net, or to wade through 300 spam in webmail just to get to the couple of real emails from people.

So yesterday I redirected all jaymis.com emails to my new google email address (which I'm not going to post here or anywhere else for obvious reasons). Overnight it received about 200 emails, kept the 11 that were from humans and unobtrusively dumped the others in the spam folder. Only 2 false negatives (spam which it thought wasn't in fact spam) got through. Yay google.

I'm still spending almost all of my time sorting travel stuff out, but the end is near. 1 week near in fact. About this time next week I'll be checking in at the airport. Hopefully by then I'll have some clothes and other stuff packed in a bag.

Gmail just had its first false positive on an email. That's a bit uncool considering that it's only had 10 emails from actual people. And it was an email about a website I'm doing. AND it was about 3 replies into a conversation so it had a lot of me typing in there.. I don't know what you were thinking there Gmail. Bad Gmail.

man avoid it hey. Google will win the big brother award this year for greatest intrusion on privacy. They are planning to scan all your emails to find words to attach advertisments too.

thats how they can offer 1gb webmail space for free.

ill find the link here somewhere.
